Last Indoor Winter Farmers Market of the Season Takes Place Saturday

The last Indoor Winter Farmers Market of the season will take place on Saturday, April 21, starting at 10:00 AM in the Emporia Humanitarian Center, 215 W. 6th Avenue (former Lowther South School). This completes the second season of year-round markets in Emporia as the organization enters its 30th year of operation. Indoor Winter Markets have been made possible via a generous grant from the Emil Babinger Charitable Trust.

The mild winter and early spring means you can expect to find an abundance of produce at the market that, in a more typical year, would not be expected for a few more weeks. The market also features a variety of home baked goods and artisan crafts, included jewelry. Homemade soaps and lotions, fresh flower bouquets, local honey, farm fresh eggs and locally made jerky are regular products available at the farmers market, year round.

Saturday’s market will feature live music from guitar player and cellist, Jane McCoy.

The market is currently accepting new vendors for the 2012 season. Vendor regulations can be downloaded at www.emporiafarmersmarket.org or leave a mailing address at 620-343-6555 or emporiaFM@gmail.com to receive a copy by mail.

Fresh Produce and Live Music at the Market on Saturday, April 7

An abundance of fresh produce is expected at the next Indoor Winter Farmers Market on Saturday, April 7, starting at 10:00 AM in the Emporia Humanitarian Center, 215 W. 6th Avenue (former Lowther South School). As well as a variety of lettuces, spinach, cabbage, kale and carrots from our high tunnel and green house vendors, you can count on farm fresh eggs, home baked goods, and home crafted, handmade soaps and lip balms.

Saturday’s market will feature live music from The Neighborly Brothers. This 3-part harmony group (and one guitar) performs doo-wop and assorted melodies. Don’t miss it!

If you would like to receive email reminders about market activities and events, please send a note to market manager, Tracy Simmons, emporiaFM@gmail.com or sign up on the market’s website, www.emporiafarmersmarket.org.

Farmers Market Kiosk Getting Refreshed for Start of 30th Season

Logan Avenue 4-H Club members--Kaman Simmons, Ashley Storrer, Evie Simmons, Riley Botkin, Taylor Botkin and Maddie Simmons--painted the Emporia Farmers Market kiosk as a community service project for the club. Refurbishment plans include new and improved shelving for the market kiosk, as well as the fresh coat of paint. Club members have been involved with the market as Veggie Valets for several years now. The kiosk improvements will be complete in time for opening markets in the parking lot, starting Saturday, May 5, for the beginning of the market's 30th year anniversary.
