Spinning the pinwheel roll-up

Congratulations, Margie Combes!

by Regina Murphy
What a pleasant day we had for last week’s cook-off!
The competition was for pinwheel roll-ups. Three intrepid cooks brought down their best and about 80 marketgoers tasted and voted for their favorite. The weather was nice compared to the previous few days, and everyone was loading up on sweet corn, watermelon and Naomi Brenzikofer’s flower bouquets. If you haven’t made it to the market yet, you need to go. They open at 5 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. Saturdays in the parking lot at Seventh Avenue and Merchant Street.
So, the lovely, quick and easy appetizer, a pinwheel — or tortilla — roll-up was a big hit. There were two sweet ones and two savory ones. The winner was Margie Combes of Emporia, who received a reusable shopping bag from CountryMart North with all kinds of comestibles and helpful kitchen aides in it. Congratulations, Margie!
