Watermelon Games at the Emporia Farmers Market on Saturday, July 11

On Saturday, July 11, ESB’s Annual Homegrown Celebration will take place at the Emporia Farmers Market, starting at 8:00 am. The whole family is invited for watermelon games and more!

The market, as well as registration for contests, will start at 8am. There will be a watermelon rolling contest for kids age 5 and under, watermelon eating for ages 6-9, and a seed spitting contest for distance for kids ages 10-13.

Artists of all ages are invited to bring a carved or decorated watermelon to the kiosk by 8am. Prepare contest entries at home and deliver to the market kiosk by 8:00am on Saturday, July 11, for judging.

The Emporia Farmers Market would like to take a moment to thank ESB Financial for their continued support of market programs and operations. They have long been a champion of the Emporia Farmers Market and have been the official lead sponsor of the market since 2009. Each year in July, the bank and its employees sponsor the Homegrown Celebration, featuring watermelon rolling contests, seed spitting and eating games. In 2012, they introduced a watermelon art contest for all ages. This well-attended event is often the largest market of the season.

The market continues in the parking lot at 7th and Merchant every Wednesday, starting at 5pm, and every Saturday, starting at 8am, through the end of October. Information for shoppers and potential vendors can be found on the market website,
