Kansas Food Assistance, KSFMNP, and Market Money Programs

Double your SNAP dollars and buy more fresh fruits and vegetables with Double Up Food Bucks at the Emporia Farmers Market! Double Up Food Bucks is a SNAP matching program that helps low-income families eat more healthy food and supports local farmers, thanks to the generosity of the Emporia Community Foundation!
How does it work? People who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, also known as food stamps) can swipe their EBT cards at the market information tent to buy SNAP tokens, and receive a matching number of Double Up Food Bucks tokens (up to $25 per day). SNAP tokens can be used for any SNAP eligible items at the market, and use the Double Up Food Bucks tokens to buy more fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Double Up Food Bucks program is funded by a $2.9 million USDA Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive grant and $2.9 million in matching funds from private foundations and local governments, for a total of $5.8 million. Over the next three years, coalition partners will expand Double Up to 68 farmers markets and 117 grocery stores in the Kansas City and St. Louis metro areas, eastern Kansas, and central and southwest Missouri.
The Double Up Heartland Coalition is led by the Mid-America Regional Council; Cultivate Kansas City; Douglas County, Kansas; the East-West Gateway Council of Governments in St. Louis; and the Fair Food Network.

KSFMNP: Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program
The Kansas Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (KSFMNP) provides low-income seniors who meet age and income requirements with $30 in checks to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from authorized farmers at local participating farmers’ markets May 1 through Nov. 1. Checks are available in $5 increments.
The Emporia Farmers Market provides additional dollars, while supplies last, to seniors who qualify for the program. Seniors enroll in KSFMNP through Lyon County ECKAN. Dates to enroll will be announced here when the checks become available.
To be eligible to receive KSFMNP checks, seniors must meet the following criteria:

Age: 60 years old or older on the day the money is issued.

Income level: Individual annual gross income (before taxes are withheld) must be at or below $21,775 ($1,815/month). Seniors need to provide their most recent proof of household income.
Eligible foods available to purchase with the KSFMNP checks from authorized farmers at participating farmers’ markets are defined as “fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, locally produced honey and herbs for human consumption that are produced in Kansas under normal growing conditions.”
The Kansas Senior Farmer’s Market Program is a project of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The program is coordinated by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), which is collaborating with local partners to identify and distribute checks to eligible seniors.
The program is currently available in the following counties: Allen, Anderson, Atchison, Barton, Bourbon, Brown, Butler, Chase, Clay, Cloud, Cowley, Dickinson, Doniphan, Douglas, Finney, Franklin, Grant, Greenwood, Harvey, Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Lyon, Marion, Marshall, McPherson, Miami, Montgomery, Morris, Neosho, Reno, Republic, Riley, Saline, Sedgwick, Stafford, Sumner, Washington and Wyandotte.
